Winona Alexene Martin passed away at The McCall Centre for Continuing Care, Toronto on Thursday, March 23rd, 2006 at the age of 98.
The former Winona Alexene Frain was born September 15th, 1907 in Grey Township and was the youngest daughter of the late Lorenzo Dowe Frain and Margaret Jane Bell Frain. Winona was the beloved wife of the late Angus Edwin Martin who passed away in 1984. They were married in 1943.
Winona leaves to mourn, her daughter, Mrs. Gwendolyne Tooth, her husband John and grandchildren - Lorraine and Gregory Tooth; her grandson-in-law Vicente Carbonel Ruiz and her great granddaughter, India Alexandra Carbonel Tooth. Also loved by her nieces and nephews Allan Frain, Fred Martin, Mrs. Naomi Price, Mrs. Edna Jenkins and great nieces Mrs. Joyce Zimmerman, Mrs. Helen Hodgins and Mrs. Marnie Hills. Winona was predeceased by her three sisters: Julia Hoag, Idabelle Tyerman and Loreno McInnis and her two brothers Joseph and Lewis Frain.
Winona taught school for a number of years and was church organist and leader for 26 years. She was a member of Melville Presbyterian Church. She taught piano and violin and enjoyed the progression of the pupils. She was fond of crafts, oil paintings and ceramics. She enjoyed traveling and believed in the idiom that traveling was more educative than reading; traveling in Europe many times, the Orient, the Holy Land, Egypt, Morocco, Hawaii and Australia.
Friends were received by the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Saturday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels. The funeral service was conducted from Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels on March 26 at 2:00PM conducted by Reverend Cathrine Campbell.
She was laid to rest in Brussels Cemetery.
