Merle Hoegy

After a courageous battle, Merle Hoegy passed away surrounded by family on September 27th, 2026, at Seaforth Community Hospital in his 74th year.

Loving husband to Rhonda for 43 years.

Proud dad to Sean (Dana), Laurin, and Zachary (Kelsey).

Grandpa to Amelia, Everly, Finnegan, and Malcolm.

Brother to Barbara (Randy), Maynard (Lynn), Bonnie (John), and Beverley (Bill).

Brother-in-law to Janice (Paul) and Marlies (Jonathan).

Missed by very special nieces and nephews.

Merle was full of life and a genuine person. He believed that everyone was capable of fantastic things and always wanted to help you get there, whether it was through advice, service to others, or just being present.

Merle loved to dance, (including square-dancing) he would dance to anything, but his favourite dance was with Rhonda.

He loved anything outdoors, he was an avid downhill skier, he fished all the time and enjoyed his adventures at Bennett Lake. He coached and played baseball, hockey, and broomball.

Merle was a mover and a shaker, he was a respected businessman, running Brussels Agromart for 33 years with Rhonda. He was community minded, volunteering with the Brussels Lions Club for 37 years.

He loved to chat, tell stories, play cards, and make sure everyone was being the best they could be. He will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbours, community members, and work associates.

Merle and his family are grateful for all the medical staff that they have met on this journey. Merle loved his nurses and doctors at the Seaforth Hospital and appreciated their sincerity and honesty. A special thanks to Dr. Percival, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Thomas.

A come and go celebration of Merle’s life will take place at the Brussels Legion on Friday, October 9th from 11-3pm.

In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Seaforth Community Hospital or the Brussels Lions Club would be appreciated.
