Janice Gail Taylor

Passed away peacefully on Thursday October 16th at Huronlea Home for the Aged in her 81st year. Beloved wife to Russell Mellville Taylor for 58 years. Mother to Nigel (Judy) Simon (Marita), and Bryce (Bobbi).

Grandma to Mackenzie, Hannah, Sarah, Grace, Graham, Helena, Hazel, Gwenyth, Denver (Jasmine with new addition Meyer), and Kennedy.

Sister to Kathy (Tom), and Lois (John).

Sister-in-law to Bruce (Marilyn) Taylor.

Predeceased by parents Harold & Lois Morgan, in-laws Arthur (Russell) & Gladys Taylor, sister Mildred (Gord), Marilyn (Larry), and brother-in-law Glen (Merle).

Aunt, and Great Aunt to many.

Janice’s life started in the West end of Toronto. Janice cherished the lifelong friends met in both public school and high school, including her husband who she met at Runnymede Collegiate in Grade 10. Following high school and administrative business training, Janice started her career at Prudential Insurance. There was a small stint living in Dundas after getting married before starting a family with Russ in a small apartment near Jane and Bloor back in Toronto. Needing some space, they moved to Mimico for a couple of years before settling in Markham. In Markham, they initially raised their family meeting lifelong friends who were a large part of her life.

Janice’s next chapter (challenge) took her to a live at and manage a retirement community, Turnberry Estates in the town of Wingham, Huron County; a joint venture with Russ’ family. Continuing to raise her family, Janice helped Russ manage Turnberry Estates, while also taking on several jobs including administration at the Township of Turnberry and Stainton’s Hardware. Janice moved to Huron County in 1987, spending her last years at the Highland Apartments and Huronlea long-term care facility in Brussels Ontario.

Janice was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Janice worked numerous jobs to help support her family with many instances of volunteer work in children’s sports and activities, as well as the Women’s Auxiliary for the Wingham hospital. She enjoyed her travels when the opportunity arose with many friends and family. Janice loved to host and entertain, making incredible meals and social fun including activities of cards, games and as a social participant in curling which was another source of close friendships throughout her years.

Janice was extremely selfless, sometimes to a fault. She was kind, supportive and resilient. Sometimes considered timid, Janice was ferociously protective of those she loved. She will be dearly missed, especially her deep belly laughs which made the rest of us laugh with her. May your mind finally be at rest.

The family would like to give a sincere thank you to the staff of Huronlea. Your dedication to the care of Janice provided her with the dignity she deserved in her last chapter of her life.

A celebration of Janice’s life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy donations to Alzheimer’s Huron Perth would be appreciated.
