Slipped away peacefully on September 11th, 2022, surrounded by her family at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie in her 81st year.
Survived by her dear husband Walter who cared for her with love and devotion for 60 years.
Son Glen (Heather) Helling, daughter Marta (Christian) Kingsmill.
Adoring grandmother to grandchildren Maitland, Rachel, Hanna, and Ryan.
Edith will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by her parents J Archie Scott & Alexandra M Scott, in-laws Felix & Martha Helling and brother-in-law Albert Helling.
Edith was born in Clinton Ontario on July 23rd, 1942 but lived on a farm near Blyth. She grew up in Gorrie, moved to Wingham and ended up in Exeter. Edith first met Walter in Etobicoke and soon after again in Toronto at Casa Loma. It was then that they knew they were soulmates destined for each other. They spent their first date watching the movie ‘Under the Yum Yum Tree’. Edith attended Western University Teachers College before moving to Etobicoke and taking a job teaching at the Etobicoke Board of Education. She started teaching grade 2 and then taught kindergarten where she truly found her calling and stayed for the rest of her career. Edith loved teaching, she liked to bake and loved to travel. Many trips were made down to Florida as well as out to the cottage. With so much travelling, it was very fortunate that Edith was so skilled at packing up the car. So skilled in fact was she, that Walter was relieved of this task and Edith owned it for the next 40 years! She was also Walter’s dedicated partner, banker, coach, sidekick and best friend.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at the Gorrie Cemetery on Saturday September 17th at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
